East Village
East Village got its start as an Eastern- European community. Its desirable location is just 10 minutes from the Loop, a few blocks from the hip Wicker Park neighborhood, and just East of Ukrainian Village.

The rich history East Village possesses, dating back to before the Chicago Fire, created incentive among the local alderman to protect some of the properties. The 1100 block of North Winchester became a landmark district as a result.

Like much of the area, East Village has been reborn thanks to urban pioneers, artists and entrepreneurs who were attracted by lower real estate prices. Today, there are still opportunities to find affordable properties.

East Village is a sub-neighborhood of the larger area known as West Town. Its central location gives residents of East Village open access to many of the cities "hot spots."

There is an eclectic mix of new restaurants, coffee shops and clothing stores that have recently made their homes in East Village.

The most common style of architecture in East Village is the small cottage style home. There is also a large concentration of two and three-flat buildings.
