Natural beauty, a wide range of housing options, cultural diversity and some of Chicago's most exciting views (including full panoramas of the lakefront, downtown and the suburbs) mark Edgewater. This area contains residential districts and is bound by Foster, Devon, Ravenswood and the lake.

The neighborhood has high-rise buildings along Sheridan Road, mid-century courtyard buildings along the Winthrop-Kenmore corridor, and tree-lined streets and large houses west of Broadway.

The eastern section of Edgewater is being transformed by apartment rehabbers. Newer high-rise apartments, condominiums and town-houses are available along Sheridan Road and Lake Shore Drive. Since 1983, nearly $65 million in public and private money has been invested in properties along Winthrop and Kenmore.

Today, Edgewater's convenient transportation, lakefront location, parks and beaches make it attractive to young townhouse and condo hunters of all backgrounds. The neighborhood beach has a fishing pier, contemplation point, walking paths and flowers. Loyola University students and faculty live throughout the area.

Housing: n 2009, the average sale price of a single-family home was $547,500. The prices ranged from $140,000 to $1,600,000. The average price of townhouses and condominiums in the Edgewater Area was $218,431.

Transportation: Edgewater is served by the Howard-Dan Ryan "el" with stops at Loyola (Devon), Granville, Thorndale, Bryn Mawr and Berwyn. Several CTA express buses also run along Sheridan and Lake Shore Drive to the Loop. The Metra commuter train stops near the western edge of the neighborhood at Lawrence and Ravenswood. Travel to the Loop on Lake Shore Drive takes about 15 minutes.
