Rogers Park is known for its diversity among people and housing. It is the northern gateway to the city for many. About 10 miles north of the Loop, on the border of Evanston, Rogers Park is bound by Howard, Devon, Lake Michigan and Kedzie.
Many students are attracted to this area because it is nestled between Loyola and Northwestern Universities and there is affordable housing.
Rogers Park is one of the most diverse American communities in the country, with a robust mix of ethnic backgrounds, languages, age diversity, and a wide range of family incomes.
In Rogers Park, large courtyard buildings predominate near Sheridan Road. Residents are lured by the lake, eight beaches and affordable housing.
West Rogers Park: West Rogers Park is bordered by Kedzie, Howard, Ridge and Peterson. The area has a variety of bungalows, Georgian, Victorian and Ranch homes. Although the majority of residents live in single family homes, there are a few large apartment complexes and many owner-occupied two and three-flats in the area.
Housing: In 2009, single-family homes sold for $373,323 in the Rogers Park Area. The average townhouse and condominium sold for $179,934.
The average rent for a one bedroom apartment was $865, two bedroom apartments rent for an average price of $1,100, and three-bedroom apartments rent for an average price of $1,500.
Transportation: There are a various modes of public transportation in the Rogers Park area. The Howard "el" train makes stops close to the Loyola campus. There is also an express bus that runs along Sheridan and goes straight downtown. The commute downtown is about 20-23 minutes. |
